About Us
We're a Scottish charity dedicated to teaching children and young people about financial literacy and the importance of saving money through hands-on experience in Dundee schools.
Our Mission
Save by the Bell Dundee is committed to providing young people with practical financial education and real-world saving experiences. Our objective is to improve the financial capability of young pupils in the local community by providing financial education and money management skills, with the long-term goal of reducing debt and poverty. We believe that learning to save money from an early age builds confidence, responsibility, and essential life skills that will benefit children throughout their lives.
Through our weekly collection programs in schools, we create a safe and supportive environment where children can learn about money management, budgeting, and the value of saving. Our approach combines practical experience with educational support, making financial literacy both fun and meaningful.
How We Work
Our program operates through weekly collections in participating Dundee primary schools. P6 and P7 pupils take on the role of tellers, collecting money from their peers under adult supervision. The tellers gain experience working with real money, which improves their numeracy and data entry skills.
Every participating child receives a savings book where all transactions are recorded, helping them track their progress and build confidence in their saving abilities. No amount is too small - we believe every penny counts and helps build positive financial habits.
Why It Works
Research consistently shows that learning to save when young helps with money management skills as children grow older. Many young savers have bank accounts but never get the experience of actually going and saving money in a structured, educational environment.
Our program bridges this gap by providing real-world experience within the familiar setting of school, making financial education accessible, engaging, and effective for children of all backgrounds.
